I enjoyed reading your ‘Interior monologue’ (I looked up ‘stream of consciousness’ and realised that your writing was not this as it ‘retains some logical structure and grammatical sanity’. I liked that AI description!). I especially liked the side-track about your lilac tree. It made me think of my garden, which I never write about. Maybe I will. As you say, some posts on Substack e.g. shadows, make you think about posts you might write. I might too. It reminded me of the phrase “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”.

Grammatical sanity hey? I like that too!

Will we ever return to ‘May I have please?’ Instead of ‘Can I get?’ It drives me mad. Even our generation is saying it. Your thoughts?

My thoughts are best summed up in a single word: shudder.

'Can I get?' always sounds wrong to me - 'Can I get a coffee?', 'Yes you can, leave this building, walk down the road to your local supermarket, pick it off the shelf and...'.

But on the other hand, language changes, and who are we to dictate what the generations that follow might end up saying?

Exactly

I have enjoyed getting to know you better here, beyond the confines of the world of translation and interpreting. I also love it when your train of thought ends up as a bus.

A replacement bus service. I like that image, which is all too common in this neck of the woods.

An enjoyable read after a long day at the Wordface today. This morning for my virtual commute (a literal walk around the block), I hooked up my podcasting mic to my phone and chuntered my way to getting a load of thoughts out of my head as I walked.

Chuntering is massively underrated as a pastime!
